“Underwearness” helps fulfill an underlying need for survivors of domestic violence

ELLSWORTH – Survivors who are being served by NextStep Domestic Violence Project will soon be receiving much needed gifts of new underwear and socks, thanks to the generosity of Crossfit Breakwater in Ellsworth.

Amy Boles, owner of Crossfit Breakwater, stated, "We are pleased to be lending support to NextStep in this way. When our members come for their workouts on March 26, their entry fee will be a donation of new underwear, but we will have a bin in a highly visible location all week long so that anyone can drop by and contribute to this important project. I hope other businesses and organizations in our community will take our lead and work with NextStep to organize similar events at their locations!"

“Donations of underwear and socks of any size are needed, including bras, panties, boxers, t-shirts – everything,” stated Kelly Brown, NextStep Associate Director. “Sometimes victims of domestic violence are escaping with nothing but the clothes they are wearing, which goes for their children, too. We are so grateful to Crossfit Breakwater for conducting our first “Underwearness” event for us!”

For those who wish to help, donations will be accepted at Crossfit Breakwater in the Mill Mall, Ellsworth, March 21-26 during business hours: Monday - Friday 5:30 - 11:30 AM & 3:00 - 7:30 PM and Saturday 8:00 - 9:00 AM
